Dave Paddon is a retired airline pilot from Northwest River, Labrador, who grew up immersed in Labrador’s storytelling tradition. After marrying a Gander woman and returning to Newfoundland in 2005, he began writing recitations that capture the province’s humor and culture. He has published five chapbooks, two illustrated children’s books, a book of recitations and his latest work is titled "Nurse Fortescue and Doctor Paddon".
Dave will retell the stories of his parents Sheila Fortescue and Tony Paddon as a tribute to them and their storytelling, which sparked his own interest in this intangible part of culture and history. A glimpse into the lives of frontier health care workers that would be scarcely comprehensible in the modern era.
