In "Loops and Lines” artist Anastasia Tiller examines the intricate connections between humans
and nature through a collection of textile works and plein air sketches. This exhibition invites
viewers to engage in a dialogue about the landscapes we inhabit and their impact on our sense of
community and belonging.
During the art residency at Terra Nova National Park, the artist explored the relationship
between personal and shared experiences in the natural world. The work reflects an investigation
into how these experiences shape perceptions of the landscape and foster connections within
communities.
Through this exhibition, the artist aims to highlight the significance of these relationships and
encourage a deeper reflection on our collective bond with nature and each other.
Artist Bio:
Anastasia Tiller is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Since 2008, she has been exhibiting her work both nationally and internationally. Notable
exhibitions in Newfoundland and Labrador include the collective exhibition "Loops to Live By"
at The Rooms Provincial Art Museum and Archives in 2019, the solo exhibition "Room for
Happiness" at the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2020, and the installation
"Symbiosis" at the Bonavista Biennale in 2023. In 2024, her solo exhibition "Symbiosis" was
presented at the Elora Center for the Arts in Ontario. In 2025, she participated in the international
group exhibition "Here + Now: Connection Through Water," held at Somerset House in London,
UK.
Anastasia is the recipient of the Arts and Letters Award in the senior artist category for both
2025 and 2023. Her work has graced the cover of NQ magazine and Riddle Fence, and she has
been featured in articles published in "Saltscapes," Canada’s East Coast magazine, and Le
Gaboteur francophone magazine.
Her artistic practice encompasses monochromatic figurative pieces referencing photographic
imagery, gestural flat paintings, and colorful pointillism landscapes. Additionally, her textile
work takes a unique direction, adding a whimsical twist to the traditional Newfoundland and
Labrador craft of rug hooking. This craft, which Anastasia embraced during the long winters in
Lethbridge, NL, is transformed through her fantastical approach to ocean creatures. Her creations
exude loops of theatricality, vibrant pops of colour, and a sense of optimism, bringing cheer to
misty or snowy days.
Anastasia is actively involved in the provincial visual arts community as an art teacher and has
served on the Board of Directors for Visual Artists Newfoundland and Labrador. She is currently
engaged in several committees for the organization and participates in the Francophone
community within the province.
