Donna Butt
Rising Tide Theatre: Art in Rural Revitalization
Donna Butt is an actor, director, writer, and producer who has worked in theatre since 1973. She co-founded Rising Tide Theatre in 1978 and served as its artistic and executive producer. She is a recipient of the Order of Canada, the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador, and an honorary degree from Memorial University.
Through stories, archival footage, and scenes from the Trinity Pageant, Donna shares her journey from the Mummers Troupe to Rising Tide Theatre’s move to Trinity in 1993. With her creative partner Rick Boland, she redefined the role of art in rural communities, creating plays that capture Newfoundland’s history and culture.
